Silkwood Diary

5th May 2008 Welcome to Vintage 2008

Welcome to Vintage 2008 image

The last 2 months at Silkwood have been extremely hectic but very satisfying.

Winemaking is a real art, with vintage involving picking, processing and fermenting the grape. The fruit quality this harvest was excellent which will result in flavoursome wines.

We harvested nearlly 90 tonnes of fruit in early April and since then have been busy in the lab testing the different juices for sugar, PH and acidity levels. Clint and Lee, under the guidance of our Wine Consultant Blair Meiklejohn have spent the last 2 months ensuring each and every wine will be at it's premium.

During the next few months the red wines will go into barrels and begin their aging process. The 2007 reds will be blended and stabilized ready for bottling. The white wines are settling and then will be stabilized, filtered and bottled.

During June the cycle will start again with pruning season commencing. We have posted our latest vintage pics under 'Winery photos' for you to see just what goes on here at Silkwood.

The Cellar Door has adopted a new Winter Menu which is already proving a success. Come and sit by the log fire while enjoying our hearty Tuscan Bean and Vegetable Soup or our delicious Gourmet Platter.

Lakeside Cellar Door is open every weekend from 10am till 4pm.
